i dont understand why. my physics grades are on a downhill. just failed horribly. even those questions i thought i was right were wrong. mr yong's supposed to produce a-grade students. but why am i simply becoming more stupid?
there was teachers' day rehearsal on wed and fri. keefe surprised every1 with his great voice. he sang a few lines for the council song skit. could tell that they really put in alot, picked so many songs that suits the context and altered the lyrics. thumbs up to the team! most of the other items were also of great standard, and i was rather surprised that there were so many enthusiastic guys who volunteered to perform, like those from one of the arts classes who danced well considering they aren't the pros. and the 'rock' band too. was quite amazed that there were so many people to form new 'rock' bands for each event. band was the finale as usual. the councillors and the others made us feel appreciated when they jumped up and enjoyed themselves when we played 'cant take my eyes off you'.
stayed in sch to do wk on mon and tues. it showed a stark contrast in the amount of work i could complete on wed, thu and fri when i had cca and went home, falling asleep within minutes of settling down at the desk, doing almost no work at all.
and i am not a mugger. i am just trying to do work in school because i am unable to do so at home.
true muggers are telling me to stop mugging, hidden muggers are telling me to stop mugging, muggers-to-be are telling me to stop mugging. when can people stop telling me to stop doing something that i have not done? when i fail horribly? i just did.
yest. there was oral presentation traing. i think it was really ex. $45 per person. she spends 2-hours on about 30 people. minus material costs thats over $600 per hour! whoa. anyway, i was the last person to give the one-minute speech. everyone looked so bored and i was so nervous i mixed up my questions and statements 'cause i didnt dare to wait for an answer, afraid that there would be none.
many people who could speak well to a group didnt speak as naturally as they usually did, expect for some who are leaders in their respective ccas, eg daryl. she said he speaks with authority. wow. i guess ccas really train up one's "public-speaking" skills.
Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them. --James Baldwin
oh my gosh! i visited my friendster account (which i had already forgotten all abt) and there were some requests. there was this 'stella' and i thought it was my p6 classmate but the photo didnt look like her. so i looked and the other photos and realised it was actually my p4 classmate! wow, we havent met in ages. its only just that i realised friendster isnt a silly website where people who already know one another try to paste their photos together on the internet coz we all cant live without it. it actually links lost friends! but its only virtually though
wow. haven't laughed so hard for such an extended period of time in at least the past year. during cip, we played this game where everyone held hands to form a circle except for one who was blindfolded. this person then had to try to catch someone while the rest of us were to move as a circle to avoid getting caught. none of wanted to get caught so everyone was pulling, screaming [and of course let go sometimes ;) ]. it was so exciting and the actions of the blindfolded person and the almost-getting-caught people were so funny i was laughing till my stomach was aching most of the game. by the time it was over, i was already quite breathless. haha.
met zhenglan on wed!
supposed to donate blood for the 1st time in my life but i was told that i couldn't coz i had consumed processed chinese stuff which may be contaminated when it was manufactured...
went dyslexic association of singapore for an interview during pw. 1st time i entered a workplace at an office building, and when i walked in, i actually felt like a terrorist in those hongkong movies... haha, weirdo
one third of the class ponned school on thur. in the past, they ponned because it was "1st 3 months". ok, i accepted that. after that, they ponned lessons once in a while. whatever. now, mass-pon? utterly disappointed. i dont want to be in such a class. i dont want. dont want.
why do ppl always have to wait for others to start doing something before they dare to do it...
There is no squabbling so violent as that between people who accepted an idea yesterday and those who will accept the same idea tomorrow.-- Christopher Morley
went for an econs seminar this morning at nanyang poly (its a cool well-designed institution). it was really complicated, real-life economics. globalisation... i dont know how to apply what we gained from it in school context. some people asked rather impressive questions, as if they were preparing to become future economists.
then pam n i walked to amk library to do tutorial, with a lunch break in between. we sat on the kids' chairs n were worried that they would collapse. there was a mom fiercely putting down a kid, totally destroying his self-esteem. how horrible. evil.
i think it was the 1st time i ate at a neighbourhood coffee shop with a friend (other then the zhi cha class dinner).
on the way to the mrt we discussed about class dynamics (btw, i still dont uds this word..), the reason why she had suggested to have lunch. now and then, we would always discuss this issue. as the months pass, though i still like to talk about it, i am becoming more and more cant-be-bothered to do anything about it. and i blamed my worsening attitude, decreasing enthusiasm on the class. whatever.
then i was complaining about the way they treat tianen (the best out of all the 2nd intakers) coz he's so smart, and they need to ask him for all the academic help, and bet that they'll treat jiayuan the same way if he was the top student. and pam actually managed to infer that's its how i feel too (though i'm not so smart)... wow, bu kui shi lit student.
my parents went for parent-teacher meeting.. mrs nair told them i should speak up more in class, ask more questions, coz she doesnt know what we are thinking.. ok, maybe i'll try... on the other hand, mdm low told them i am quite ok, i do go look for her after lessons to clarify doubts (do i?? the only thing i rmb is the extra lesson during june hols which everyone else didnt bother to attend...). but she said i should ask qns during (not after) lessons so that my qns can be clarified right away. like what the guys do. ok, will try too. but dont ask out-of-point please.
generally, they didnt say much. just that i am still ok. sigh. i m always left out. just because i dont fail and i make an effort to be consistent in my work doesnt mean that they can leave me alone.
just got this off from jasper's blog. find it very insightful. hope u dont mind...
"i cannot stand e feelin i get fr e class ppl.
no, im not sayin they're evil or anyting..
but e negatitive tots n rejection they emit is 2much.
individually, they're fine.
but 1 whole big bunch of them is way 2much."
i cannot agree anything less than totally. though i am part of "e class ppl"... sighz
yest. i met jac! i miss them.
the kids at cip rebelled. totally lost control of them. coz mr tay and nic etc werent ard. they kept shouting no! no! no! booo...
so spoilt... i seriously rather give tuition to some kids who are willing to learn...
some things i hope to learn through pw:
- how to successfully convey opposing views in a harmonious manner. and convince people with not only logic but also sincerity.
- how to come to a satisfying compromise.
i felt crying..
thu. there's problem-based learning for organic chem. sux... we dont even have enough time to finish the syllabus... how to do self-learning... for ip students still can... that's what the program is created for. but not the jc system! hello... its like using thick soup, trying to harden it to build a house instead of using cement... ok.. lousy analogy. oh, another one: trying to use a ruler to fan yourself instead of a proper fan.
and we had a hell lot of hw thrown to us...
ok, something not that boring. during gp, nic saw the quote on my hp and messaged a modified version to some girl, after adding a "muacks". but he doesnt want to tell me who. then he boasted about being experienced and knowing what girls like. hiyo..
oh ya, forgot to mention. i joined greenlink! went for it last week, found out that alot of its activity days clash with band, but finally decided to join since addy's also joining, and huiling said as long as i'm committed in other activities, its ok. janice also just joined! and i got to know a new friend, anna, who's really friendly, and also in chem olympiad.
then on fri, rard didnt want to tell me the couple they were 99.9% sure about, coz i didnt want to tell anyone about my guess...
???
i dont know what's going on. i shouldnt bother?
shall end with this thought-provoking meaningful story. again taken from jasper (who took it from his friend)
Does God Exist?
just an email i received...
An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class, on the problem science has with God, The Almighty. He asks one of his new students to stand and.....
Prof: So you believe in God?
Student: Absolutely, sir.
Prof: Is God good?
Student: Sure.
Prof: Is God all-powerful?
Student: Yes.
Prof: My brother died of cancer, even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?
(Student is silent.)
Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Is Satan good?
Student: No.
Prof: Where does Satan come from?
Student: From...God...
Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student: Yes.
Prof: So who created evil?
Student: (Student does not answer.)
Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student: Yes, sir.
Prof: So, who created them?
Student: (Student has no answer.)
Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student: No , sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student: Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student: And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student: No sir. There isn't.
(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
Prof: (There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)
Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?
Student: You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life, is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor,do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
Prof: (The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)
Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work, and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?(The class is in uproar.)
Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?(The class breaks out into laughter.)
Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it?.....No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.) Prof:I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.Student: That is it sir.. The link between man & God is FAITH. That is all that keeps things moving & alive.
CONCLUSION of the matter - So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - Hebrews 10:17
i thought i could finish alot of hw this long wkend. but apparently i was wrong. there's still so much work, n i'm gg for 4/10 dinner later. every sunday, i had been wishing for just an extra holiday to do more stuff. but now with 2 more days, i hvnt dont anythin much. argh.
on sunday, there was (half) class bbq steamboat dinner at marina. didnt expect so few people to turn up. joyce, tianen and i were there very early after pw meeting at amk. (initially, tianen suggested going to nic's house but he was already going out.) weiqi was the only punctual one. cher, nic n serjing came after a shopping date, pam n yuxian as well, and lionel, rard, lc. to watch the fireworks display was part of the programme but we started so late we didnt watch.
basically, throughout the whole dinner, everyone was crapping alot, and bonded a little.
then they wanted to take a taxi (though finally we didnt) to suntec for a midnight movie, which is another example of the different culture. the other time, with my pri sch class, we walked all the way. rard told an army story about being possessed which made me believe more in ghosts, esp the way he told it. anyway, marina was so crowded by the time we got out of it, it was too late so only cher n the whole gang of guys stayed out while yuxian n i took mrt home.
boy. it was really difficult discussing pw online.
1. everyone gets to ' talk' at the same time so its difficult to get replies.
2. cant explain ourselves clearly. esp when we already have such problems face-to-face.
3. our project doesnt have a clear focus.
4. conflicts
mon. the sch finally announced the long awaited half-day. on the worst possible day. phy spa had to be pushed to after ndc on fri, which sux though i wasnt prepared on mon.
cldnt wash my hair for 3days so i cldnt do pe, esp not in the rain. n every1 laughed when jus n joyce told the tchr..
ate sizzler with mom then spent more than an hour in the bank. there was this elderly man queuing in front of us who started talking to us after i said that i felt 17 is very old. there was 1 part when he asked how i would introduce my mom, "zhe shi wo de ??" i dont know why but i said "mu qin" (usually, the common one is mama). so he was very glad coz i used the right term. he's the pro-proper kind. think some other teenager would have rolled his/her eyes
finally reported the lost of my wallet on tues. i wonder how they cld stand passing their days in the police station. it was cold and totally uneventful.
1st time i left sch so early on a wed. checkup at nsc. the doctor said there was nothing wrong. then i had to do a blood test. it was so painful as usual. and the nurse only got the blood at the 2nd try, coz my veins were too fine. at least this was faster then the other time. then i had a few dozen strands of hair pulled out, which was a torture as well. shldnt have gone for it, since the doctor said most probably i would be ok. zheng shi zi tao ku chi.
had jap food after that.
thur. gp. one of the best so far. mrs nair wasnt here. so we did work then i became hyper coz daisy started telling lame jokes n then every1 (there was also pam n meilian) got lame. jasper was talking alot. its very sorry how he's treated by the class. hope things can improve.
after sch, tried to join greenlink to get more cca points. but all the activities clashes with band. help! i think i'll end up with a c grade....
fri. ndc. never reached nj so early. 7am. then esther announced that it was adeline's bdae n i got a shock. so sorry we didnt take note of it. sigh. this is so not me. ought to get a punch. just last week, i was thinking about whether anyone's bdae was coming, yet i didnt think abt hers.
there was formal ceremony, n it was the 1st time we saw that boys' brigade had such an elaborate uniform.
i think it would be really cool if they got all the uniformed groups to march pass like the real thing. n karen's friend even told her mrs cheng would make her entrance in a car. haha.
there were dances, fashion show, cheerleading, fireworks n liveband (lionel as guitarist). the band got me into the mood and reminded me of the fun we had last yr, forming human trains running around the quadrangle cutting through others, jumping to the music played by the live-band till we were exhausted. but spa held me down.
i was trying to remember all the possible sources of error, all of us were discussing (nic and serjing were most willing to share). but in the end, i only wrote 2 even though i came up with more during the expt. i always leave myself disappointed for physics. what's the matter???
had alot of difficulty swinging the bung.. luckily mr yong gave us the results without requiring our set of answers. otherwise i would have died worst. and the council pres, kenny who sat between sand n me seemed so calm and was done like 10 mins before time.
seriously would prefer to have taken it on monday.
had surprise phy lesson after that. totally had no mood to go out. did some pathetic bit of work with pam before meeting yuxian, cher, singying, serjing n nic for dinner at pizzahut. felt it was very ex. bought a tweety notepad for my attached kid, sakinah.
serjing's attitude was truly a 180 degree change during cip as compared to in sch. all those good big brother qualities. wow.
found out from vernon that sakinah, is actually very talkative. ok, i do cause people to talk less. expect for chor yew, who could go on about stuff i couldnt understand. everyone was quite scared of him.

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin – Few books have had as significant an impact on the way society views the natural world and the genesis of humankind.
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell – Gladwell looks at how a small idea, or product concept, can spread like a virus and spark global sociological changes. Specifically, he analyzes “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable.”
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens – This is a tale that lingers on the topic of attaining and maintaining a disciplined heart as it relates to one’s emotional and moral life. Dickens states that we must learn to go against “the first mistaken impulse of the undisciplined heart.”
Lolita – This is the kind of book that blows your mind wide open to conflicting feelings of life, love and corruption… and at times makes you deeply question your own perceptions of each. The story is as devious as it is beautiful.
Getting Things Done by David Allen – The quintessential guide to organizing your life and getting things done. Nuff said.
How To Cook Everything by Mark Bittman – 900 pages of simple instructions on how to cook everything you could ever dream of eating. Pretty much the greatest cookbook ever written. Get through a few recipes each week, and you’ll be a master chef by the time you’re 30.
Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Wisner – Franz Wisner had it all… a great job and a beautiful fiancée. Life was good. But then his fiancée dumped him days before their wedding, and his boss basically fired him. So he dragged his younger brother to Costa Rica for his already-scheduled honeymoon and they never turned back… around the world they went for two full years. This is a fun, heartfelt adventure story about life, relationships, and self discovery.
Self-note: Tip for my future business =D
give employees reasonably high pay to keep them- otherwise they are unlikely to stay loyal.
treat employees not according to how well they treat me but how conscientious they are at work

2Mar11: "The King's Speech" w Ame (hilarious, inspirational, tho it doesn't impress me that much to understand why it's the Oscar winner)
Mar11: "10 Things I Hate About You" very funny. silly sweet high school romance. just right for having breaks in between doing homework
23May11: "Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides" w Wb Yl Ame Pg (pretty good - scenery, freakish parts, fighting scenes, dressing, humour, bits of Christianity like when the Spanish said "only God gives life")
6Jun11: "Xmen First Class" w Wb Ame Pg (i was very keen on watching it and it was really good! intellectual, makes sense, cool action, some humour)
9Jun11: "Legally Blonde 2" w Irene (seems like some dumb blonde movie but kind of meaningful too - speaking up for yourself and what you stand for)
17Jun11: "Something Borrowed" w Sandy Lisa (quite funny, somewhat meaningful wrt friendships. they didn't like the lack of sense for one part tho)
16Jul11: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" w Irene, Sweetee, Kw (not bad. i didn't understand some parts again but the humour and effects were pretty good)
Aug11 "Horrible Bosses" w Ma (she fell asleep! gosh. the movie was very crude i must say but there was the humour)
25Oct11: "The Three Musketeers" w H (i would rate it 3.5 for humour/intellectual language and 4 for action. it's by the same producer or director as Sherlock! but a bit less awesome albeit a good chill out movie)
5Nov11: "Real Steel" w Hl (action packed but not too hardcore for me. i liked that there was the father and son element and how the father eventually softened his heart and especially the part when charlie was having trouble telling max sth and max was so understanding saying "Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." touching and demonstrates true fighting spirit)
12Dec11: "50/50" w L (adopting her words - a heavy topic put across in a lighthearted way, but not taking away d meaning. most of it was rather hollywood-ish trashiness but there were a couple of punch lines "u can't change ur parents, but u can change d way u respond to them.")
25Dec11: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" w KY (ultimate action packed! super tense almost throughout the movie, and interesting Tom Cruise made it such that not everything happened smoothly - he would jump and misland and get all sorts of injuries..it's really the courage to jump without hesitation even though you are not sure you'll be alive after that. KY loved d movie and said she would watch it again!)
3Jan12: "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" w KY (i love mystery (: and the witty sarcastic dialogues. good level of excitement with the action. didn't understand some parts as usual. i like Holmes and Watson they depict such a true pair of buddies ;D)
23Jan12: "You are the Apple of My Eye" w mom (now i understand why guys like this movie so much - the anxiety of chasing after a girl and the acts schoolboys do to get the girl's attention and hopefully affection. the initial fluttering and the subsequent quarrelling)
22Mar12: "The Iron Lady" w KY (really love Thatcher's sharp words. inspiring and thought-provoking, tho i was still left uncertain of what to do with my life, the movie is definitely an encouraging one)
29Mar12: "Barney's Version" w SJ (a funny movie of a screwed up life of a man who had 3 wives, smoked and drank but very heartwarming at the same time, the relationships with the dad and the 3th wife - quotable quotes!)
27Apr12: "The Hunger Games" w Mom
4May12" "Avengers" w MF n PS (funny, action-packed)
7Jul12: "The Amazing Spiderman"
21Jul12: "The Dark Knight Rises" (fantastic depth, loved the twists)
