maddening. i was doing pw on the comp till 3am then my bro switch off the main switch, complaining that i was too noisy and he "needed to work tomorrow" ie, today. how can noisy can using a comp (w/o any music) be compared to him watching tv almost every night till 1+am when our parents and other neighbours needed to work on the following day as well.
boo! lala.. shall spend some time blogging. though promos is only a few days away and i've only started on phy and math... diee... n the whole class thinks i've mugged alot and am lying that i havent...
ok.. just fell ill after the poisonous chem spa on tues... headache + sore throat + fever + flu ... dont really know if totally due to the octan-1-ol/propanol or is it because i've been staying in school till so late for the past few weeks. still think it the octan-1-ol. alcohol is poisonous! (confirmed by chem teachers) anyway, it was the best spa so far - ms sim really prepared us well.
anyway, quite proud of myself that i still went to school and behaved as usual. actually people would say its silly... but i am me. allowed myself to rest after sch on wed, but didnt completely recover... so still having flu now..
for last week's pe, there was this dance module. so all the classes having pe at the same time wld go dance/ do aerobics, with this professional. my group wasnt very enthu, so i thought it was a nj thing. then when i saw the last group on friday, i was like "whoa!", they looked like they were having so much fun.
oh ya, then last thur, ms sim (math) asked me, jus n pam how much couples there are in our class. she thought there are two, but wasnt sure about one of them, which totally wasnt true. we were trying to get her to tell us what she thought then it was really funny coz she didnt want to say names. for the wrong one she thought it was the old and new math rep, simply because of where we sat... then jus n i had to explain that it was coz she didnt want to sit there
for phy, mr yong's lecturing. was really interesting - funny (not pointless idiotic stuff like kenneth koh's) and inspiring. singapore really need more teachers like him, who make the effort to shape our character.
had the last cip at hougang with the kids. everyone was quite glad that it has come to an end. i think. its really long yet fast.
tested for fat percentage during pe on tues. i gained sooo much fat! gosh! the last time during 1st 3 months, i rmb it was quite low, then now... i dont think i have been so unhealthy for the past few months compared to before coming to jc. must be nj food too good - most of us had increased fat percentage. yuxian was the only one left with less than 20%.
had to submit pw written report draft on wed. had to do last minute amendments n stuff despite feeling unwell.. then mr yeo told me this draft was supposed to be the proper one liao.. yet ppl were still thinking that we had alot of time after promos, and he replied, "yes you have alot of time, but whether you have time for me to amend to you a not ..." not exactly what he said, sth to that effect... then he said if want him to help check, must give him immediately after promos... die...
then in the middle of the night, after the few hours of rest i gave myself, i tried to do some work but ended up wailing... self-pitying.. sick still have to force myself to do work... felt really pathetic. then after letting it out, i felt much better. suppose its my once-in-a-while expelling of emotions bottled up. and i started feeling happy! forgot how i managed to convince myself to change my feelings.
thursdays always seems to be the happiest day of the week. yest, mrs nair came into class and said, "..." eh.. i forgot exactly what she said.. but it was because i managed to do what she wanted us to for the computer technology essay, so she gave me a much-better-than-usual grade. initally, i was like "what essay" like i didnt even write any. haha. later, i told her it i spent one whole day doing it..
then the rest of the lesson pam n i were going mad like most of the thur gp lessons, just that this time, it was blamed on our illness. (both of us r sick)
then after that, i got this chi sms that went "gong xi ni! ..." had mixed feelings about it coz was both pleasantly and ---ly surprised... i forgot the other feeling i had. it was something like paiseh i think.. or maybe it was sth else.. cant rmb. oh my gosh, its only yest...
anyway, not bad. 2 pieces of good news in one day. despite getting this really mean chain sms that curses people who dont forward it to do badly for all subjects... *touch wood*
oh ya, i half tied up my hair yest. then nic told me that when i stepped into class (1st lesson was tutorial), terrence said i looked like ah lian.. russell kept asking why i tie up.. haiyo... anyway, then today, i finally tied up my hair for the whole day, 1st time in my life i think. was super messy. transition state. still havent decide whether to keep. afraid of receding hairline.
hmm.. i think after being bombarded with super chimology, my brain seems to be able to think better. (note: think, not remember) had today's chem olympiad, which i couldnt follow much and he (this michael nio who is only 2 years older, in nus doing chem, i think non-local, started teaching last week, overheard he gets paid $25 per hour for this when the chem head was talking to him, chem-lover cum genius who uses special symbols n does qns like a pro) was going rather fast like before. then after that i didnt even feel like thinking, just wanted to let my brain rest, but surprisingly, i could link e-to-the-power-of x to 2-to-the-power-of-x. ok, this is quite 'dots'
anyway, i shall believe that my hypothesis it true. oh ya, nearly didnt mention, they didnt on the aircon for dont-know-what reason so the ava room was sooooo stuffy i nearly suffocated, esp with my flu. and he could still think like normal and give a lecture wearing a shirt over a tee. seriously pro.
oh, and nowadays, i'm getting really ego... kept saying that "fenella is always logical" to everyone. the result of getting to know me better.. its always like that.
shall end with mr yong's quotes (taken from jasper - he's too nice la, buy the phy papers for everyone to practise for promos though the class fund is broke so he had to collect money but most of them didnt pay.. then i got quite agitated about it...)
i have no impression about the very last quote though.
it is good to do the things u love. but wouldnt it be better if u just love whatever you are doing?
it is difficult to start something, but it is more difficult to stop.
delay breeds delay but success breeds success.
there is no magic 2 greatness.
yong's 1st law - law of brute strength.
if a sufficiently large force is applied, anything can be broken.
yong's 2nd law - law of thinking.
there r many ways to break things using a much smaller force.
yong's 3rd law - law of luck.
sometimes, even with e greatest effort and the best thinking, u may still not succeed if u are unlucky. most importantly, while we are unable to control many things and events, there are parts of our future that are more in our hands than we think.
TALKING about a problem is supposed to help one get over it, but apparently writing does the very opposite.
Psychologists have found that keeping a diary is bad for your health, the New Scientist weekly reported. Diarists were more likely than non-diarists to be plagued by headaches, sleeplessness, digestive problems and social awkwardness.
NO. there's this brother who blasts the tv the whole day.
At the library?
NO. there are on-going chats everywhere! people not studying sit in the library to chat and laugh loudly, people studying/doing work also chat. and from time to time, there are kids stomping around, screaming.
DO I REALLY HAVE TO SPEND THAT 2HOURS OF TRAVELLING TIME TO STUDY IN SCHOOL??? OR MUST I REVERSE MY AWAKENING HOURS AND STUDY WHEN EVERYONE'S ASLEEP???
anyway, its already the end of the week. thanks to everyone, i haven't managed to do any revision yet. thanks man.
wah... my eyeballs are popping out.. been staring at the comp screen for almost the whole day. it wasnt this tiring when i played the sims... getting old...
my postings stagnant expect for one day a week.. shant waste the tagboard space. reply here.
cher: the thing that's wrong is that ppl call me a mugger when i am not. anyway its just me, being too fussy about stuff. n u arent a half-..., u are an efficient mugger who can spare time to enjoy.
rard: oh, then perhaps i'm just thinking too much. but its really depressing when u say "the current class which is just a bunch of selfish muggers. ugh. hatethem." dont u have fun with serjing and gang? i think we shouldnt keep getting upset coz the class is not what we want. think of the times u guys laugh together and smile!
nic: hey, hvnt congratulate u. when are u sending out the red/pink letters? ;)
jus: dont u only care abt yourself too sometimes? i m guilty of that too. and what did "some people say" that u cant believe?? dont answer one question and leave another for people to ask leh. otherwise we'll keep having to ask u to explain.
today. screwed the physics spa skill a again....... i only wrote till "vary the indpt variable"....... guess i'll get zero again..........
spent the rest of the entire sat doing pw. after pw group discussion, sand, jus and i plus pam went to toa payoh's sumo bento for lunch. rather average.
i have a wish. that they'll accept our interviews so that the 10% wont be gone as well. please.
tues. teacher's day eve. the rest of the sch had aces' day workout (which got me laughing) followed by class picnic breakfast. was quite glad that we performers had the freedom to walk ard instead of sitting on the parade square. all the performances went well, and it was the 1st time we saw the tchr's fashion show. they wearing the nj grey was very interesting. they looked like true blue njcians! oh ya, there was one year when ny's principal and vps wore hongzi. and it was quite *ahem*.
the audience wasnt really lively when we performed the finale. although i saw some councillors forming a train at the back of the parade square and running ard, trying to bring up the spirit. thankfully there was this year 2 councillor, mervyn i think, (i saw from the corner of my eye), who starting clapping and stuff. it was only towards the end of the encore that everyone stood up after being asked by the councillors...
oh, n i havent complained abt the sun... made me perspire and my glasses were sliding off my nose... kept trying to push it back up but it wldnt stay... irritating.
after that, we had pizza for the farewell to greenlink tchr-in-charge, mr yip before gg back to ny with huiling and zhixiu. baorui was quite surprised that i was from ny (which is quite surprising since i'm considered to have the look). it was a last-minute decision (literally), coz i was never close to tchrs. felt quite paiseh coz i didnt get anything for them. shld have made cookies. i always wanted to. but i dont have an oven! ugh.
back there, everything seemed so familiar, like nothing has changed. saw mr tan, mrs chua, wang laoshi and friends at other jcs. feels so nice to be ard all the good ppl. then shiling, mich and i tried to visit the new student centre but it was closed, so we had to stare thru the window. we sat at what seemed and felt like an al fresco cafe, waiting for lisa. so jealous, that they built such a wonderful place after we left.
the 4 of us then rushed to westmall to watch "13 going on 30". missed a bit of the start. it was rather funny (like the parts when j. garner tried behaving like a 13-yr-old). simple fairy-tale-like story incorporated with adult politics. teaches us that we shouldnt be mean, or we'll grow up to regret it. and unlike in the movie, there's no going back in real life. matt was such a sweet guy.
we were so "thifty" we shared not only the popcorn set but also the "linner", whatever its called. i like to share, can save money and have variety. unlike in present class outings where we pay alot.
oh ya, when we just finish watching the movie and exit the cinema hall, there were cna film crew and a channel 8 reporter. so it attracted everyone's attention to the mrt station where the video cam was facing. then it was only until the 10pm news when i found out someone was killed. so scary.
in the evening, it was the 1st time i went jogging ard the estate, after i heard abt it from estelle who does so. (n mich runs like 5km. wow.) it was much better with all the wind cooling me down.
thur. 1st time my right eyelid kept twitching the whole day. weird sia.
fri. it was nic's bdae and cher baked a cake for him. (literally.) luckiest guy in class. she even gave him a hug. oops. haha. that's out-of-pt.
The tendency of the casual mind is to pick out or stumble upon a sample which supports or defies its prejudices, and then to make it the representative of a whole class. -- Walter Lippmann

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin – Few books have had as significant an impact on the way society views the natural world and the genesis of humankind.
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell – Gladwell looks at how a small idea, or product concept, can spread like a virus and spark global sociological changes. Specifically, he analyzes “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable.”
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens – This is a tale that lingers on the topic of attaining and maintaining a disciplined heart as it relates to one’s emotional and moral life. Dickens states that we must learn to go against “the first mistaken impulse of the undisciplined heart.”
Lolita – This is the kind of book that blows your mind wide open to conflicting feelings of life, love and corruption… and at times makes you deeply question your own perceptions of each. The story is as devious as it is beautiful.
Getting Things Done by David Allen – The quintessential guide to organizing your life and getting things done. Nuff said.
How To Cook Everything by Mark Bittman – 900 pages of simple instructions on how to cook everything you could ever dream of eating. Pretty much the greatest cookbook ever written. Get through a few recipes each week, and you’ll be a master chef by the time you’re 30.
Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Wisner – Franz Wisner had it all… a great job and a beautiful fiancée. Life was good. But then his fiancée dumped him days before their wedding, and his boss basically fired him. So he dragged his younger brother to Costa Rica for his already-scheduled honeymoon and they never turned back… around the world they went for two full years. This is a fun, heartfelt adventure story about life, relationships, and self discovery.
Self-note: Tip for my future business =D
give employees reasonably high pay to keep them- otherwise they are unlikely to stay loyal.
treat employees not according to how well they treat me but how conscientious they are at work
(of course, musn't expect them to only do work throughout the entire working hours -
give some breathing space too, we are humans, not machines) Movies watched(listing started on 6jan08)

30Dec09: "Sherlock Holmes" w Irene, Tony, Sweetee (my favourite genre of books made into a movie - what else can be more cool? acting effects humour excitement suspense all in)
12Jan10: "Avatar 3D" w Mom (didn't appreciate the digital effects which everyone wowed about. content etc was so-so. cathay's 3D glasses were too heavy for me)
8Feb10: "The Truman Show" w Ky n sis n Yuhshin (a must-watch. very thought-provoking, funny. reminder to be spontaneous and create your life the way you want, instead of falling into a typical routine
14Feb10: "New York, I Love You" w Mom (I loved it! a good couple movie with meaningful pointers to keep it going. but i think some stories could be more developed)
16Feb10: rewatched "The Pianist" (still find it good, tho i still feel first viewings are the best)
17Feb10: "Valentine's Day" w CHL n WB (laughed throughout - a feel-good movie; liked the fact that the various stories binded tog so well with the little surprises here and there, vs NY ILU in which each story was separate)
20Feb10: "赤壁二" w Addy, Karen, Sharon, SJ (should have watched the first one first cos i ended up not knowing who's who and what's happening and had to keep asking :/ and couldn't pay attn.. if not i think it should be a pretty good movie..)
4Mar10: "Alice in Wonderland 3D" w Mf (i found the 3D effects of this @ CCK Shaw SO much better than Avatar @ The Cathay =/ and the movie was much more enjoyable too! - cheered a sad me up :)) favourite quote - the Mad Hatter: “You used to be much muchier before. ... You have lost your muchness.”)
18Mar10: "Nodame Cantabile" w Irene, Mf (i thoroughly enjoyed some of the orchestra pieces - SO impressive! the expressions of the actors were really amusing :D)

Inception
Letters to God (very simple Christian movie)
22Nov10: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" w Ame, Irene (they loved it. pretty good, i guess the main problem i had was that im not familiar with HP :X)
13Dec10: "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" w Sj (not bad, could follow the story unlike HP. like the meaningful teachings, too long - in a post)
2Mar11: "The King's Speech" w Ame (hilarious, inspirational, tho it doesn't impress me that much to understand why it's the Oscar winner)
Mar11: "10 Things I Hate About You" very funny. silly sweet high school romance. just right for having breaks in between doing homework

6Jun11: "Xmen First Class" w Wb Ame Pg (i was very keen on watching it and it was really good! intellectual, makes sense, cool action, some humour)
9Jun11: "Legally Blonde 2" w Irene (seems like some dumb blonde movie but kind of meaningful too - speaking up for yourself and what you stand for)
17Jun11: "Something Borrowed" w Sandy Lisa (quite funny, somewhat meaningful wrt friendships. they didn't like the lack of sense for one part tho)
16Jul11: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" w Irene, Sweetee, Kw (not bad. i didn't understand some parts again but the humour and effects were pretty good)
Aug11 "Horrible Bosses" w Ma (she fell asleep! gosh. the movie was very crude i must say but there was the humour)
25Oct11: "The Three Musketeers" w H (i would rate it 3.5 for humour/intellectual language and 4 for action. it's by the same producer or director as Sherlock! but a bit less awesome albeit a good chill out movie)
5Nov11: "Real Steel" w Hl (action packed but not too hardcore for me. i liked that there was the father and son element and how the father eventually softened his heart and especially the part when charlie was having trouble telling max sth and max was so understanding saying "Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." touching and demonstrates true fighting spirit)
12Dec11: "50/50" w L (adopting her words - a heavy topic put across in a lighthearted way, but not taking away d meaning. most of it was rather hollywood-ish trashiness but there were a couple of punch lines "u can't change ur parents, but u can change d way u respond to them.")
25Dec11: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" w KY (ultimate action packed! super tense almost throughout the movie, and interesting Tom Cruise made it such that not everything happened smoothly - he would jump and misland and get all sorts of injuries..it's really the courage to jump without hesitation even though you are not sure you'll be alive after that. KY loved d movie and said she would watch it again!)
3Jan12: "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" w KY (i love mystery (: and the witty sarcastic dialogues. good level of excitement with the action. didn't understand some parts as usual. i like Holmes and Watson they depict such a true pair of buddies ;D)
23Jan12: "You are the Apple of My Eye" w mom (now i understand why guys like this movie so much - the anxiety of chasing after a girl and the acts schoolboys do to get the girl's attention and hopefully affection. the initial fluttering and the subsequent quarrelling)
22Mar12: "The Iron Lady" w KY (really love Thatcher's sharp words. inspiring and thought-provoking, tho i was still left uncertain of what to do with my life, the movie is definitely an encouraging one)
29Mar12: "Barney's Version" w SJ (a funny movie of a screwed up life of a man who had 3 wives, smoked and drank but very heartwarming at the same time, the relationships with the dad and the 3th wife - quotable quotes!)
27Apr12: "The Hunger Games" w Mom
4May12" "Avengers" w MF n PS (funny, action-packed)
7Jul12: "The Amazing Spiderman"
21Jul12: "The Dark Knight Rises" (fantastic depth, loved the twists)
20Aug12: "ParaNorman" w Mom (simple funny animated movie, heartwarming support)

13Mar10: The Rain Came Down Like Pearls the Night I Died... The New Musical - Sing & Tell by Mark Chan w Addy & Jy
