I spent yesterday trying to study my first Physics topic - Electric Fields, but I kept falling asleep before I kept wandering away to grab a snack (btw, I'm at home). And I still don't understand many concepts. Over 20 more topics!!! Plus the untouched Econs!!!! and a full GP paper to do!!!!!
Chopin! "I like to Chop-pin Chop-pin, You like to Chop-pin Chop-pin, He likes to Chop-pin Chop-pin, We like to... Chop-pin!" haha, our mispronounced group name =) Here's Chopin at music quiz. Crystal, Thomas, Esther, Clarine, Tess, Me, Deon, Dianxiang, Colleen (she joined our group from the second day. contributed alot with music knowledge that she on her own!) and Trinetta. Btw, this photo's taken with Crystal's phone!
What to you do when you wake up one day to realise that you've been wrong about something all the time? When there have always been signs flashing frantically at you to tell you that you're on the wrong track but you persisted with your way because you think you're right and others are wrong. You think that you yourself know more about the matter than others do and yea, to hell with the opinions of others. You don't even give a damn. Then, you wake up on that fateful morning and realised that you've been taken on a ride all along... deceiving yourself into believing that things will work out, like how the fairy tales unfold. The good will always defeat the bad. I'm not saying I'm good. But... Yar.
I just woke up to such a day.
Guess what. I am intending to move back home! I had the notion on my way home last weekend. As I explained to Mom - I had my reasons for wanting to move to BS; I have my reasons for wanting to move home. I'm quite sick of the food there which makes me unhealthyly fatter with all that huge servings and lack of movement (okay, that sounds like a silly reason but I'm just particular about food sometimes); I think I'm wasting quite alot of money 'cos I'm not really studying alot, I would rather spend on food and my long desired mp3 player. I've never kept my wallet so tight before. The restrictions are quite irritating over the long-term. Being the minority gets too oppressive over time. One of my roommates always mutters "sssss" whenever I get up earlier than them (which is most of the times). Okay, don't misunderstand me, they are nice people but I just find the complaining getting too much for me. (I hate grumbling people.) It will be after we step down from band.
Updates about the year-end trip to GuangZhou and HongKong from Mr Ho. It'll be about 18 to 26 December, so we'll be spending our Christmas in HK! Mr Ho's planning to have us visit Disneyland! haha, actually I'm not that excited about the Disneyland part, just excited about the trip as a whole. I didn't go to Thailand with NYCB two years ago, I sure don't want to give up this chance. Mr Ho's such a quality-person. He said he made sure we stay in at least a four-star hotel, and we're taking SIA plane! Not forgetting the hi-fi set in his house which cost $30000.
Speaking of hi-fi, for our movie screening of "The Phantom of the Opera" on the first night, Mr Leong actually brought his hi-fi from his home to the bandroom! ('cos the LTs weren't available and CO was using the hall - oh ya, CO was practising even till night time throughout their camp). The aircon was switched-off and it got quite stuffy.. I think many of us had our views blocked by one person or another - I was only watching one third of the screening for two thirds of the movie, but it didn't bother me since I had already watched it.
Last weekend I was at Suntec helping Singapore Environment Council do a survey on plastic bag usage. 3 hours and 30 over people surveyed. I didn't create any artificial persons. The morning shift people actually filled in half of the survey forms themselves, and Liyong who stayed for both shifts taught Addy to do so too. In fact one of the surveyees told me that I didn't really have to ask other fill in the survey (implying that I can fill them myself...) Anyway, Liyong's a new J1 I got to know. A very sociable person.
Okays, another weekend wasted on the computer.. Earlier in the day, or rather, *looks at the time*, yesterday I was on a blog visiting craze - I visited nearly all the blogs of people I know, even those whom I don't know personally. I had been restricting myself on the amount of time I spend on blogs-reading but it seems like when things build up, they just explode one day.
I wanted to change my blog template too. Found one but its to late to meddle with it.
Have been suffering from a sudden bad sore throat since Friday... and motion headache since the bus-ride to City Hall on Saturday... boo
Why do I have to be such a lousy player... OKays, minus that point the camp was great. I actually didn't sleep at all on the second night. So at the end of the camp, we got reprimanded for looking "jaded", in Mr Leong's words. Quoting off Esther's blog: "we have a lot to learn abt limits". I was dozing off whenever there was a few bar rests no matter how hard I tried to stay awake - hitting or pinching myself (okay, that's like self-abuse..). I felt like one of the Sims, when the energy level is at the minimum, no matter where the person is, he/she will just drop down asleep.
Well, Mr Ho was right once again - he told us on the first day that usually everyone would be very energetic but on the second day we would be drained (though it turned out to be the third day). We slept quite early on the first night, about midnight, but we didn't sleep well 'cos we shared sleeping bags and I woke up about 10 times. Tess was so amusing - she fell asleep before the rest of us so when we orientated ourselves, we had our feet facing her head and the following morning, she said that when she woke up in the middle of the night she got a fright seeing all our feet. hahaha.
Ohs, I haven't mention there's Crystal, Esther, Tess, Sixun, Clarine (I always call her Clarice by mistake) and Trinetta in our room, ta33. Actually I don't really regret staying up 'cos we had fun! At the end of the Exco games, I was already very tired but somehow, after bathing (that was past midnight), I became more awake. Then again, when they were telling ghost stories, I wasn't really listening (partly also because I didn't want to scare myself). But when we started the death cases where people have to ask yes-no questions and guess the story, I because awake! So glad we digressed from ghost stories. The guys (Wilson, Melvin and Deon) and Addy had joined us (Dorea, Regina, Yanru, Jiayun, Eng Hong, Siew Han, Pauline) who were playing heart attack (using Erwin's dirty cards) to start a ghost stories session.
So many people playing heart attack sure isn't easy. Everyone had to stretch so that we could stack up our hands. We weren't a violent bunch of people though. For the ghost stories, they had the lights off to create the spooky effect. Eng Hong had some "What if..." spooks that he created himself, and one of them was that what if at the end of telling a ghost story, you realised that everyone's face stays at the same stoning expression. This is indeed very scary, especially when he added the visual effect of his own stoning face - someone should have taken of photo of that. Then when the others started telling army ghost stories, he tried to sleep, 'cos he'd be doing NS in one and a half year's time and those stories wouldn't do him any good.
Okays, on to the death cases, which I was definitely more interested in. I started with the seaweed one, which a few of them already knew so Dorea took the stage and set the scene of the story. What I like about the death cases is definitely not the scary part; it the thinking part which interests me. You are supposed to reason the stories out with logic. The radio case and the matchstick case were also asked. The others who knew the story gave a few hints here and there though we weren't supposed to. Anyway, the radio story did take quite long to be formed while the matchstick one was solved surprising quick. I don't know how Wilson (if I didn't remember wrongly) guess the most important lead so fast as if it was natural. I learnt of a new story - about seagull. Jiayun said HewHui told just about it before, a modified version about ostrich, though I have totally no memory of that. I want to have more of such stories!
After that we played Murderer (the hand-squeezing version). Can I say that my intuition is quite good? The one time I was the detective, I caught both murderers without mistakes with less than half of the innocent killed. Gees. Sometimes the murderers were so pro there was only one innocent person left in the game. Then Ashley joined us too and started the game of Polar Bear. He quite impressed me as the game master, coming up was all the horrible ways civilians were murdered, saying it in such a calm tone. I thought he would make a good OGL - he's a funlover. Yanru was a convincing guru - she managed to get her two polar bears voted out! I only succeeded in getting Addy voted out before Deon correctly (though unknowningly) killed me - I had been too quiet in the previous round, then when I became the guru, I suddenly spoke up. Hmms, I haven't mastered the trick of this game.. Its my second time playing it, the first time was on Etude night - oh, that means its being more than a year! Melvin was quite funny - he kept trying to get Tess voted out, and in the final round when Tess was really the polar bear for the first time, he got himself voted out instead. Tess and Dorea were expert polar bears - they looked really sleepy and the rest of us didn't believe they were polar bears.
Then some were tired and wanted to catch some sleep (I think it was already past 3 or 4am). There was Dorea, Deon, Addy and me left then we started playing bridge and Karwai soon joined us. Addy said she'd alternate with me but she really fell asleep (as I expected; before that when I was lying down to rest my back she even told me to get up otherwise I'd fall asleep. haha) So the four of us played till 6+am when Deon had to go for percussion sectionals (Yea, that early 'cos later in the day they had to play for the rest of the band). Valerie came along so we continued playing till it was time to washup and pack up.
Dorea and Karwai are absolutely funny. They were half-conscious so Dorea was very slow during the bidding and Karwai kept forgetting what the trump card was and wanted to put it out and Valerie had to keep reminding him not to. Blur people are indeed hilarious. I had never talk to Dorea previously and only talked to Karwai once, so this can be considered new interaction.
Overall... The food was good for a camp. I think its because its provided by Angela's father. There was even ice for the drinks! They prepared extra. We didn't have plain white bread at all! Donuts, curry puffs, crossiants, but no bread. There were even four items in the packed dinner for the first night, though I didn't like the fried noodles (there was fried beehoon too) for lunch. Oh ya, Mr Ho gathered the group leaders and the Exco during lunch, saying that the group leaders have to build up the group spirit. Back to food - we had Canadian pizza on the second afternoon! NJCSB members in general do not eat much. There was quite abit of leftovers. Some people said we would have KFC for dinner but we had fried rice with drumlet and fried egg instead. So Tess made some funny comment in her usual blur-like way which got me choked on my rice. Haha, I think she's abit like Mr Menon - says funny things with a straight face - though Mr Menon doesn't say silly things. Well, I had known Tess as a friendly person before the camp but not that she is so comical and insults people jokingly.
Double Wacko was very fun. A pity the stage band had to practise (they only joined us towards the end) and the Exco had to prepare for Exco games. I was not concentrating at the beginning (I forgot Christina's name again) and broke the forfeit limit (being the whacker thrice) very soon. I guess I was tired. Fortunately, the forfeit was focused on Clarice and Kirby (who was dragged in 'cos Clarice likes him - she told everyone openly). Everyone was supposed to come up with a line as part of a story for everyone to do something, but it became focused on the two of them who had to do all sorts of intimate actions. Though it was a relief for the rest of us involved in the forfeit, I think some of us felt it went overboard. Then Qisheng turned the story and suddenly Craig was chasing Boyang to hug him. haha
I lost my concentration at the briefing of the Exco game and didn't even grasp the story and what Qingyang was saying. It turned out to be a simple story. Each group had to go to each station to collect a piece of diary entry of a person who grew up in the shadows of the NJC compound and tell the complete story through the eight diary entries. For the first five stations we visited, (ie stations 3 to 7), there were no scares at all and we even saw Qingyang and Daryl walking around leisurely so we gradually let our guards down. (We had been quite cautious due to last year's terrifying experience). Then as we were proceeding to station 8 - "Eerie Tree", we saw Esther and Hanjie at the midway of the slope behind the Gym waving and pointing in slow motion for another group. Some of us suggested scaring them but we dropped the idea.
Then after going the dark way (through the squash court area) over to the bottom of the slope, Edo suddenly jumped out screaming and scared all of us! Ugh. The whole group was moving together quite fast so when he appeared from the outside of the edge of the Gym, it caught us by surprise. Then Shujun crept up behind Dianxiang while we were at the baby's "cemetery" but he wasn't frightened as she appeared silently. Ironically, he hadn't want to lead to pack and repeatedly admitted openly that he was "hum ji" (I don't know what it translates into but it means timid). Thomas was usually the one to do the tasks. Hmm, we are in the same group once again (last year there was Thomas, Daryl and me).
Finally, we had to visit a dark alley which many of us had never been to. Initially when we saw the labelling on the map, we were guess when it could be. Who knows there's such a place! When we were exiting from the dark alley, Youzhi came along to scare us. He went straight for Crystal and tried to "strangle" her! Although he didn't surprise me 'cos this time, I was at the back of the pack, I screamed too, seeing such a frightening masked guy approaching. Outside the alley, Daryl was seated on the ground, seemingly without any intention to scare us and everyone was trying to guess which of the Exco members it was (all of them were masked). Then just as I said it was Daryl, he removed his mask and went off.
I haven't talked about the first five stations at all. Deon suddenly received a phone call telling us to sing louder. It turned out that Joanne had mistook him as one of those in the group before us, since at the following station, we had to sing a rhyme after which one of us would receive a phone call.
Halfway to the parade square where we were supposed to gather, we realised that we had taken an extra diary entry at the dary alley which means Group 2 wouldn't be able to find it. I tried calling Daryl but he was so lazy he didn't do anything about it. We couldn't reach any of those in Group 2 and so were guilty of making them waste time searching. In the end, they still managed to come up with the juicest crap story, which was told by Melvin. Our group was the least literary of all - we couldn't figure out any story and none of us wanted to stand up to narrate. In the end, after they skipped us once, Dianxiang stood to criticise the loopholes in the story. haha
Well, in the end Valerie's group's story was the closest to the correct one. Hmm, unlike last year, this year's night trail was quite different. Other than the addition of story, they didn't make us run everywhere either - it was quite a direct route all the way.
On to our 4/10 gathering last night. We met at City Hall MRT at 5.30 before walking to NYDC (My suggestion! which coincided with Sheena's) at Suntec. The turnout was quite poor - 4 NJCians (Yiyun, Kaiyun, Yuhshin, Xiuxia and me), 9 HCians (Weilin, Sheena, Erene, Amanda, Laura, Jane, Huilin, Ruyan and Liming) and 1 RJCian - Linyan. Usually there were more NJCians than HCians. It was my first time eating at NYDC (though I went there with S09 once) and their baked rice was yummy. The servings were very big. I found out NYDC stands for "Now you'll die contented"! I wonder if that was really how they came up with the name.
After dinner, we walked over to Esplanade where we sat by the bay and hearing stories at HC from Weilin and Amanda. HC is indeed complicated. Have you heard of anyone in NJ clubbing. Okays, maybe you have, but the politics over there sure is more than we have. Many of their teachers do not earn their respect, and there are middle-aged men who "like xiao meimei"... Then they were talking about the basketball girls who were warned not to lost to RJ on purpose at the round-robin because of rumours which caused the VJ CCA Dean to contact the HC CCA Dean to tell the HC bballers to play properly, which the HC Dean obeyed. Weilin reminisce about Mdm Mak who when contacted by a member of the public concerning a NY girl eating on a MRT train first defended her students, telling the person that she did not believe a NY girl would do that before she questioned the school.
There was a pair of twins in their class who goes clubbing and I had being thinking that they were guys even after one of their names was mentioned (I thought that's just a guy with a girlish name) before they used the pronoun "she". haha, silly me.
Hmms, I was extremely quiet throughout the whole gathering, as usual. It seems like I'm just unable to break out of it, even though they told me several times to talk more.
Heard from Wanxuan that a band Exco member, presumably Qingyang, told her a month before our SYF that it would be difficult to get a even a gold but two weeks later, she was told an Honours would be no problem. Hmms, I never heard about that.
C major - the simplest key. You are content with where you are now, you have what you need. Some people are happy in C major, but it is up to you to decide to push yourself further if you want more from your life.
You are the 'regular' teen. Don't worry, alot of people will get this result. However, you set pretty high/low goals for yourself...and you believe you are the only one in the world. But, there are alot of people with your attitude. You tend to wear regular clothing, or you are forced to wear colors you don't want to. (such as your mother always buying you pink / blue clothing) Sometimes you feel horribly lonely and want to hide, but as always, you find something to give you reason to continue. You can either hate or love school, one opinion please. Never fear, you are not one of a kind...and that is kinda nice to hear, since there are other teenagers out there with your exact view on life.
You could get a job as an author, Teacher, editor, architect, buisness owner, or administrator. Good luck in life, and don't forget that no one is ever alone.
You scored as agnosticism. You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics don't believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof). Agnosticism is a philosophy that God's existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.
You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin – Few books have had as significant an impact on the way society views the natural world and the genesis of humankind.
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell – Gladwell looks at how a small idea, or product concept, can spread like a virus and spark global sociological changes. Specifically, he analyzes “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable.”
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens – This is a tale that lingers on the topic of attaining and maintaining a disciplined heart as it relates to one’s emotional and moral life. Dickens states that we must learn to go against “the first mistaken impulse of the undisciplined heart.”
Lolita – This is the kind of book that blows your mind wide open to conflicting feelings of life, love and corruption… and at times makes you deeply question your own perceptions of each. The story is as devious as it is beautiful.
Getting Things Done by David Allen – The quintessential guide to organizing your life and getting things done. Nuff said.
How To Cook Everything by Mark Bittman – 900 pages of simple instructions on how to cook everything you could ever dream of eating. Pretty much the greatest cookbook ever written. Get through a few recipes each week, and you’ll be a master chef by the time you’re 30.
Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Wisner – Franz Wisner had it all… a great job and a beautiful fiancée. Life was good. But then his fiancée dumped him days before their wedding, and his boss basically fired him. So he dragged his younger brother to Costa Rica for his already-scheduled honeymoon and they never turned back… around the world they went for two full years. This is a fun, heartfelt adventure story about life, relationships, and self discovery.
Self-note: Tip for my future business =D

23May11: "Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides" w Wb Yl Ame Pg (pretty good - scenery, freakish parts, fighting scenes, dressing, humour, bits of Christianity like when the Spanish said "only God gives life")
6Jun11: "Xmen First Class" w Wb Ame Pg (i was very keen on watching it and it was really good! intellectual, makes sense, cool action, some humour)
9Jun11: "Legally Blonde 2" w Irene (seems like some dumb blonde movie but kind of meaningful too - speaking up for yourself and what you stand for)
17Jun11: "Something Borrowed" w Sandy Lisa (quite funny, somewhat meaningful wrt friendships. they didn't like the lack of sense for one part tho)
16Jul11: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" w Irene, Sweetee, Kw (not bad. i didn't understand some parts again but the humour and effects were pretty good)
Aug11 "Horrible Bosses" w Ma (she fell asleep! gosh. the movie was very crude i must say but there was the humour)
25Oct11: "The Three Musketeers" w H (i would rate it 3.5 for humour/intellectual language and 4 for action. it's by the same producer or director as Sherlock! but a bit less awesome albeit a good chill out movie)
5Nov11: "Real Steel" w Hl (action packed but not too hardcore for me. i liked that there was the father and son element and how the father eventually softened his heart and especially the part when charlie was having trouble telling max sth and max was so understanding saying "Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." touching and demonstrates true fighting spirit)
12Dec11: "50/50" w L (adopting her words - a heavy topic put across in a lighthearted way, but not taking away d meaning. most of it was rather hollywood-ish trashiness but there were a couple of punch lines "u can't change ur parents, but u can change d way u respond to them.")
25Dec11: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" w KY (ultimate action packed! super tense almost throughout the movie, and interesting Tom Cruise made it such that not everything happened smoothly - he would jump and misland and get all sorts of injuries..it's really the courage to jump without hesitation even though you are not sure you'll be alive after that. KY loved d movie and said she would watch it again!)
3Jan12: "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" w KY (i love mystery (: and the witty sarcastic dialogues. good level of excitement with the action. didn't understand some parts as usual. i like Holmes and Watson they depict such a true pair of buddies ;D)
23Jan12: "You are the Apple of My Eye" w mom (now i understand why guys like this movie so much - the anxiety of chasing after a girl and the acts schoolboys do to get the girl's attention and hopefully affection. the initial fluttering and the subsequent quarrelling)
22Mar12: "The Iron Lady" w KY (really love Thatcher's sharp words. inspiring and thought-provoking, tho i was still left uncertain of what to do with my life, the movie is definitely an encouraging one)
29Mar12: "Barney's Version" w SJ (a funny movie of a screwed up life of a man who had 3 wives, smoked and drank but very heartwarming at the same time, the relationships with the dad and the 3th wife - quotable quotes!)
27Apr12: "The Hunger Games" w Mom
4May12" "Avengers" w MF n PS (funny, action-packed)
7Jul12: "The Amazing Spiderman"
21Jul12: "The Dark Knight Rises" (fantastic depth, loved the twists)
