Somehow I just feel extremely frustrated. Like everything in my life is in a mess. Literally and metaphorically. Been feeling very upset very often this past week. With myself, with other people, with my current state of being nowhere in everything.
I hate to feel aimless.
There seems to be so much emotions within me yet somehow I can't express them in words. Just loads of pent up feelings, stuck within and boiling furiously.
Aim. Aim. Aim.
What is my aim?
I can't live another day without having a clear aim.
It's just. So. Pointless. Day by day. It has been exactly TWO MONTHS since exams ended. Enough of rest. Enough of emptiness. Aimlessness.
Some short-term aims first then.
1) Read Acts. 28 chapters. Average of one chapter a day. Finish it by 24 July. Have a summary of learning points/ thoughts at each reading.
2) Finish the career and education planner thingy by this Sunday 3 July.
3) Use #2 to send more job applications.
Long-term aims.
1) Be thankful every day.
A very irrelevant point to this post: I am very upset with my lack of concentration. Why can't I just focus on one thing and get it properly done before I move on to something else.
And another irrelevant point. I get so easily upset with all the pretense niceties and social pretenses. Then again. I may just be reading too much and too cynical.
I look at the job openings, click the titles of those that seem interesting but after I read through the job descriptions, they no longer interest me or make me wonder: Where's the job satisfaction?
I don't know if I'm just thinking too much. Probably. I so very often have misconceptions and have suffered from making decisions based on them, and also been "scolded" by a friend for them when I was sharing on my job search.
How oh how should I go about finding a job that is for me?
13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done with love.
Romans 8:37 was in today's odb which i was graciously shared with, and i thought it seemed like today's sermon verse but it was actually not. Then i was confused about it's meaning and got some good explanation (:
Romans 8
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
verse 35-39 : This list of experiences and persons that can't separate the believer from God's love in Christ was not just theory to Paul. It was rather personal testimonyfrom one who had personally survived assaults from these entities and emerged triumphant.
37: more than conquerors --a compound Greek word was used, which means to over-conquer, to conquer completely, without any real threat to personal life or health
dont uds why more than conquerors
conquer what
"yet in all these things"
all these things -- see v35
oooooo
okay i think i kind of get it now
lol
yeah i like the way it's written
yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
we triumph even more than conquerors
we share victory even beyond that
and the victory was won for us by Jesus christ
we didn't have to do a thing
_____
the message today is
13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done with love.
Whatever our stresses or concerns, the heart of God is the place to “rest into.” Leave it all with Him, “for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Have you ever had this happen to you? It’s 11:20 A.M. on a Sunday morning, and you’re listening to a sermon in church. Suddenly, your pastor says, “You know what I mean?” and you realize that you have no idea what he’s talking about, and that you’ve been thinking about college basketball for the last fifteen minutes, and that drool is leaking from the corner of your mouth. In fact, you have absolutely no idea what the sermon is about. Your pastor could be talking about the political and theological ramifications of the television show “Lassie” for all you know. I confess, I’ve had this happen to me.
Scripture places a high emphasis on preaching. In 2 Timothy 2:1-2 Paul commanded Timothy:
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
Through the preaching of God’s word we hear God speak to us in a unique way that is different from when we read the Bible in private. Because of this it’s crucial that we hear the word of God preached and apply it to our lives. So how do we get the most out of a sermon? Here are four practical suggestions:
Remember Who Is Speaking
A pastor is someone who has been appointed by God to preach God’s word to God’s people. 1 Corinthians 12:28 says, “And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.” When we hear our pastor preach God’s word, we’re not just listening to a nicely dressed man giving an Amway prep talk. We’re listening to one that has been appointed by God to proclaim the message of God. I don’t want to mess around with words from God. I want to pay close attention.
Listen Intently
Don’t let your pastor spoon feed you. Listen intently to what he is saying, and measure his words against the words of scripture. Be like the Bereans, who, along with having a sweet name, are described in Acts 17:11 as follows: “Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” Notice the attitude of the Bereans. They were eager to receive the word of God. They desperately wanted to hear God’s word preached to them. But they also examined the scriptures daily to ensure that what they were hearing was really from the Bible. Let’s be like the Bereans.
Listen With Humility
It’s true, we must test the preached word. But it’s just as crucial that we listen to sermons with a spirit of humility. God himself has assigned my pastor (who also happens to be my dad) the job of instructing me in God’s word. It’s my job to listen to and learn from my pastor. This truth should instill a spirit of humility into me. I don’t want to approach listening to a sermon like a spiritual boxing match, ready for a theological fight. I want to listen with humility.
Apply The Word
Throughout the course of a sermon, we should be constantly asking the question, “How does this apply to me?” God intends us not just to hear sermons, but to be transformed by sermons. For this to happen, we must diligently seek to apply the truths we hear. During the sermon, ask yourself,How does this truth apply to:
My job
My marriage
My parenting
My Bible reading
My hobbies
My friendships, etc
A final word. Always pray before you listen to a sermon. Apart from the power of God, all our sermon-listening will be pointless. But the good news is, God is eager to meet us on Sunday mornings.
Now is when you, the alert and sagacious (a word meaning “full of life-changing wit, wisdom, and insight”) reader add your comments. What helps you get the most out of sermons? If you’ve never commented before, today is the day!
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.
It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.
2. I wish I didn't work so hard.
This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.
By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.
3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.
We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.
It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again.
When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.
Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.
Surprisingly, one A for my gem module managed to put my CAP up from 3.98 to 4.01.
So yay. Second upper. Not all that happy tho. Cos my peers got As for our core mods while I did worse than them all. Yup. So, sad that I'm not as good as they are. Oh wells. Grades.
4-person badminton on newly varnished floor was fun! :D
Okay this happened on Monday but I haven't got the chance to blog about it. Suddenly feel like doing so. I think I like it when there's just nice 4 persons playing badminton for the full two hours.
And an additional plus point was that the YCK stadium's floor was newly varnished (i.e. not slippery at all). So fun making the effort to run for the shuttle and getting it.

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin – Few books have had as significant an impact on the way society views the natural world and the genesis of humankind.
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell – Gladwell looks at how a small idea, or product concept, can spread like a virus and spark global sociological changes. Specifically, he analyzes “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable.”
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens – This is a tale that lingers on the topic of attaining and maintaining a disciplined heart as it relates to one’s emotional and moral life. Dickens states that we must learn to go against “the first mistaken impulse of the undisciplined heart.”
Lolita – This is the kind of book that blows your mind wide open to conflicting feelings of life, love and corruption… and at times makes you deeply question your own perceptions of each. The story is as devious as it is beautiful.
Getting Things Done by David Allen – The quintessential guide to organizing your life and getting things done. Nuff said.
How To Cook Everything by Mark Bittman – 900 pages of simple instructions on how to cook everything you could ever dream of eating. Pretty much the greatest cookbook ever written. Get through a few recipes each week, and you’ll be a master chef by the time you’re 30.
Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Wisner – Franz Wisner had it all… a great job and a beautiful fiancée. Life was good. But then his fiancée dumped him days before their wedding, and his boss basically fired him. So he dragged his younger brother to Costa Rica for his already-scheduled honeymoon and they never turned back… around the world they went for two full years. This is a fun, heartfelt adventure story about life, relationships, and self discovery.
Self-note: Tip for my future business =D
give employees reasonably high pay to keep them- otherwise they are unlikely to stay loyal.
treat employees not according to how well they treat me but how conscientious they are at work

12Dec11: "50/50" w L (adopting her words - a heavy topic put across in a lighthearted way, but not taking away d meaning. most of it was rather hollywood-ish trashiness but there were a couple of punch lines "u can't change ur parents, but u can change d way u respond to them.")
25Dec11: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" w KY (ultimate action packed! super tense almost throughout the movie, and interesting Tom Cruise made it such that not everything happened smoothly - he would jump and misland and get all sorts of injuries..it's really the courage to jump without hesitation even though you are not sure you'll be alive after that. KY loved d movie and said she would watch it again!)

22Mar12: "The Iron Lady" w KY (really love Thatcher's sharp words. inspiring and thought-provoking, tho i was still left uncertain of what to do with my life, the movie is definitely an encouraging one)
29Mar12: "Barney's Version" w SJ (a funny movie of a screwed up life of a man who had 3 wives, smoked and drank but very heartwarming at the same time, the relationships with the dad and the 3th wife - quotable quotes!)
